Does thinning your hair damage it? What about when it groes back?

My hair is wavy/curly and REALLY thick, no joke. I want to get it thinned but my mom wont let me because she thinks that it damages your hair and it will not grow back with the same thickness that she considers a "blessing" that I have. Is that true? Will it damage my hair?

This lady did my hair a year or two ago and used a razor or shear or whatever and I think she thinned it without telling me. The next lady I went to said not to do it again since it messes up the texture?!

No, thinning your hair doesn't ruin it at all! I have thick wavyish hair too. I thinned it out, and it grew back in no time!! It grew back with the same fullness as before I cut it. It is wayy easier to take care of!!!

Good luck with the cut!!!

ok, im not a professional, but i dont see y thinning ur hair would damage it, its basically the same as cutting ur hair, which is safe enuf, except they use special scizzors or w/e on ur hair that cuts thin strip of it, its almost like layering. these are what the tips of thinning shears looks like:

-it might look like it would make ur hair look kind of wierd but one of my friends got it done and u can hardly tell she cut it except that its THINNER. but hers is still thick cuz he has wice as much hair on her hair than anyone else. it would only turn out bad if ugot it MAJORLY thinned out and u already had thin hair or something.

i say go for it! if it doesnt turn out the way u wanted it to, itll still grow back.
